Nature-Based Design

Through Nature-Based Design advisory and support, INSPIRE helps developers reach regulatory requirements (like Marine Net Gain), strengthen non-price bid and permitting performance, and preserve decommissioning flexibility in projects including marine infrastructure.

Overview

INSPIRE’s Nature-Based Design work delivers a range of ecological outcomes, from biodiversity enhancement and habitat function to ecosystem resilience and emerging marine carbon dioxide removal applications. Working with Venterra geoscience and design companies, our teams generate the scientific evidence needed to design, permit, implement, and verify effective nature-positive infrastructure solutions.

Expertise Description

Identifying and Optimizing Nature-Based Design Opportunities

INSPIRE identifies where Nature-Based Design can create real project value. By integrating marine science with partners delivering engineering context, we screen sites for practical, evidence-led opportunities that support permitting success, enhance ecological performance, and improve long-term infrastructure resilience.

Embedding Nature-Based Design into Project Delivery

INSPIRE translates early Nature-Based Design opportunities into site-specific hypotheses and performance-based design criteria that can be incorporated into project engineering, permitting, and procurement strategies. Working closely with Venterra companies and developer teams, we ensure Nature-Based Design concepts are technically grounded, regulator-ready, and positioned for successful implementation.

Monitoring and Verifying Nature-Based Outcomes

INSPIRE designs and implements monitoring programs that demonstrate Nature-Based Design performance over time. Through defensible data collection and adaptive feedback, we support regulatory commitments, reduce uncertainty, and preserve flexibility for future decommissioning and end-of-life decisions.
